Books for Africa
July 2006: A delegation from Better World Books and Books For Africa visit representatives of the Poverty Eradication network (PEN) at the distribution center in Dodoma, Tanzania.
Books For Africa, the largest shipper of donated textbooks to the African continent, has shipped more than 17.5 million primary, secondary, post-secondary and community library books to 35 countries since 1988.
Better World Books began working with Books For Africa in 2003. Since then, we have become their largest single source of funding, providing over $1.7 million, and their largest source of post-secondary books, placing more than 1 072 760 books directly in the hands of African students.
For the 2007-08 fiscal year, we have set aside $165 000 as the "Better World Books Fund," to defray the costs of individual Books for Africa shipments. Already the Fund has leveraged the shipment of 13 containers (400 000 books!) to eight countries – click here to learn more.
